EF team attends bill signing in Olympia

Today our team had the incredible honor of watching Governor Bob Ferguson sign SB 6346 into law, including the sales tax exemptions we fought for on hygiene essentials, diapers, and OTC medications. Essentials First staff and volunteers have been working hard for this since 2024 and we are thrilled to see it come to fruition.

Immense gratitude to everyone who made this possible.

Thank you to the UW student consultants whose research supported this legislative priority, Rep. Janice Zahn and her colleagues for believing in the importance of hygiene equity enough to advocate for these exemptions to be included in SB 6346, “The Millionares Tax”, Governor Bob Ferguson for signing the bill into law with these tax exemptions intact, and all the Essentials First staff, Board members, and volunteers whose advocacy made it possible to achieve this in a single session.

Today, Washington is one step closer to dignity for all!
